Bureau of Standards strives for increased food safety
As our nation strives to come up to par with internationally accepted Food Safety standards, our local Bureau of Standards has to play in major role in getting us there.
So says Minister of Health Dr. Douglas Slater who said on Monday that in order to push us forward in terms of food safety, the Bureau of Standards must be extremely proactive as they are the agency that will eventually be the ones responsible for carrying out the necessary tests to ensure that food is safe for consumption.
Dr. Slater also made mention of the Custom’s Department playing a major role in helping the country move forward with food safety. His reasoning that we import a lot of food and that is where the Customs will play an integral role in ensuring that the food imported is of the best quality. He added that there will also be the need for an agency which will outline the types of chemicals which will be used in the production of food.
