Message to civilians: No camouflage!

In the wake of a number of robberies and burglaries sweeping St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the local constabulary  are reminding persons that wearing camouflage clothing is illegal here.

Last Friday, a man wearing a camouflage suit accompanied by another man robbed the Shell Service Station at gun point and made off with an undisclosed sum of cash at around 8.20pm.  Police say the camouflage dressed individual entered the station and held one employee at gunpoint and demanded money.

The authorities are reminding the public that only members of the Special Service Unit (SSU) are allowed to wear camouflage uniforms. The police stressed that civilians, “are not permitted to wear camouflage as any part thereof, or any clothing, apparel or material resembling or having the resemblance of camouflage uniforms except otherwise authorized by Commissioner of Police Keith Miller”.

  1. Sorry to hear these kinds of things are taking over our little country. My suggestion is that the custom officers at the airport and the port are you take away any mask that are brought into the island from foreign countries there are no need for hoodies, winter hats that have face mask attached to them. A red flag should go up when they are discover in some one luggage, barrels ects. it doesn’t snow in the SVG. so this only mean one things. come on guys and girls do your jobs, use your heads.

  2. i think the government need to have a thinking about the law with regards to camouflage. as am a in hms armed forces.i have a very high risk job and many of my demands is to be fit as possible which is do so by running alot of miles. i go running with ma camel back which is a military water bag ar eu telling if am running in svg with ma water bag it will get confiscated by the authorities. all it is a water bag.

    • You just read the article………..they say “NO CAMOUFLAGE” whether water bottle or what NONE.

      • I plead ignorant and in need of enlightenment. I am missing the part where “NO CAMOUFLAGE” translates to mean “NO MILITARY”. I will therefore assume that is what “no camouflage” means in SVG, but not in any strict
meaning of the word. If I were to “camouflage” my delivery while bowling in cricket, then my delivery would be “illegal” in SVG. Well, for those of you who say that it is obvious that it means military; I know that you don’t know anything about the military. For example, there is desert camouflage uniform, and snow terrain camouflage uniform, etc. The point is that anyone can copy or steal the local SSU uniform. Please educate the public on
what to look for on ANY military uniform. Here are some tips: look for the rank of the soldier or officer. Where is it being worn on the uniform? is the soldier wearing a beret? Where is the beret in relation to his head; eyes, ears, etc. You should be able to identify a soldier from a civilian, even if the soldier is wearing a birthday suit. Most of all; a soldier or officer SPEAKS different to a civilian. The uniform is just clothing. Only a real soldier can wear
        a real uniform.
