Aging ferries worry Maritime official
Director of Maritime Affairs David Robin thinks that a number of the ferries operating in Vincentian waters are very old.
He said that officials in his ministry have been expressing concerns about the age of some of the ferries in operation stating that the problem may be due to financial limitations of persons entering the industry among other things.
Robin said that persons going overseas to purchase second hand ferries can seek the advice of the Maritime Administration as the administration may even help to lower the cost of bringing a second-hand ferry up to standard.
Meanwhile, the Maritime Administration has also expressed concerns about the lack of safety measures and proper staffing used during the operation of some of these ferries.
