Ottley Hall Development Organisation (OCDO) launch
The Ottley Hall Development Organisation was officially launched on Saturday January 9 in Ottley Hall.
Speaking at the launch of the group interim secretary Shanie Sylvester said that the community group hopes to help in the development of young people in the community and in creating peace in the Edinboro and Ottley Hall communities.
Inspector Jonathan Nicholls speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police Keith Miller said that the police are concerned about Crime and Violence in the Ottley Hall and Edinboro and believes that the community group is a step towards improving the general community. He said that there is a need for a more harmonious relationship between the police and the community.
According to Inspector Nichols the police will boost efforts for 2010 and will support the community of Ottley Hall in their endeavours. Nichols said that the police will partner with any community that takes an initiative to reduce crime and violence.
Area Representative Hon. Rene Baptiste said that the initiative taken by the residents of the community is a noble effort. Minister Baptiste said that there are plans to train residents in different areas including conflict resolution and parenting skills.
Baptiste said that the group must also aim in making significant contributions to the continuing education of the young residents of the area.
The group held its first official general elections on Saturday.
